European Super League. The concept. GRANDPARENTS

The Birth of a SuperLiga Europe that brings together the best teams in the old continent in a single competition is something that has been trying for some time in high Balompédica inland. The group of European clubs created to defend their interests against UEFA and FIFA-popularly known as G-14 and born in September of 2000 - has been addressing this and other issues inconsistently and without the strength and stamina to be able to press and urge UEFA to change some concepts twitching most representative teams from Europe and they are primarily in the issue of television deals, the format of the UEFA competitions and other issues of lesser importance and internal regulations.

I lost a couple of hours trying to devise an alternative model that would:

a) Delete Champions League and Europe League (formerly the UEFA Cup) as we know it today benefit of a single European club competition precisely by the fact that they only have an even greater prestige and impact on all the world if possible.

b) This would be called European Super League competition and cohabit quite naturally with the current national league championships, as they operate today, without being affected in substance.

c) The competition format is as follows:

- 8 " CONFERENCE "of 9 teams each, thus giving a total of 72 teams coming from 31 European countries + Israel. [In this way the plurality of the competition will be safeguarded in order to represent as many countries as possible].
* could consider including smaller countries through previous rounds system as planned UEFA today in competitions.

- The main problem is that teams would inaugurate the competition and based on that criteria. However, the distribution and allocation of the number of teams per country and the question of which clubs would agree on the first edition would be based on the parameters of the UEFA rankings (last 5 years). It seems the most fair and honest.

- From the 2 nd edition of this competition will have on strict regard to the classification in the respective national leagues to decide which teams from each country access to the SuperLiga European base the quota of seats per country.

COMPETITION FORMAT

1. Matches would be played over two legs in each conference in what would be a kind of "international SuperLiga neighborhood" with 16 games that have a major impact on the countries represented.

2. Once the respective eight leagues, the top four finishers from each conference would agree to the knockout phase where they would the 32 best teams in the old continent that by drawing pure and simple and without seeding would cross over two legs in different rounds until the final play a single match at a venue traveling.

[Hence the CHAMPION EUROPEAN SuperLiga would dispute a total of 25 games.
We think that the FC Barcelona and Manchester United had to play 13 games respectively to reach the final of the Champions League 2010/11, so we're talking about 12 more games].
In the case of Sporting Braga and Porto (finalists Europe League ) the number of matches to reach the final is something more intrinsic to the format of the competition.

3. To offset this potential excess of matches compared to the current system that the European leagues have 20 teams (England, Spain, Italy and France) should be reorganized to have a maximum of 16 or 18 teams (a choice of country), which UEFA fact is already suggesting years. To do this we could make a reasonable period of time 5 years to bring the major national leagues this up by league clubs.

4. The TV rights would be distributed to all European countries and other interested countries in other continents and all proceeds from those rights would be shared equally the 72 teams enter. This will ensure fair treatment to all clubs that depend largely on the income to set their budgets.

On those grounds if this format was adopted and carried out in the next season 2011/2012 would the picture.

NOTE: The G14 was founded with the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a European Super League elite and shielding that would ensure the participation of major European clubs.
This system raised in the post would be much more open and democratic since for example, a team who finish in the top six of the English League could enter the tournament (after the 2 nd edition). [See Athletic Bilbao should finish 5 th for example].
In other words, doing well in the National League lead the prize of playing this unique and exclusive club competition with the national league would also gain in tracking and engaging.

* [This post is just a utopian project designed by a server. I realize that this format has its pros and cons but I understand that it would be unreasonable to think that if necessary could be carried out or at least be studied. However, UEFA has always been reluctant to drastic developments, let alone if they can not control from within].
